Did Legislature Have Proper Focus on Education? |

Maybe not many people are looking forward to it, but if the current round of lawsuits over public school funding takes hold, Texans have years of legal tangling over the issue ahead of them.
With 40 years of off-and-on, similar lawsuits behind us, some of us know what to expect -- not how it's going to turn out, but why this is all back in court and what the arguments are this time around.
For me, it's the equity issue: whether every student in the state, from property-rich and property-poor districts alike in a funding system based on property taxes, can expect a substantially equal opportunity to receive a quality education.

Corpus Christi ISD Joins Coalition |

CCISD joins more than 250 school districts, parents and taxpayers across the state, collectively known as the Texas Taxpayer & Student Fairness Coalition, as part of the suit. Superintendent Scott Elliff recommended CCISD trustees approve the measure. Elliff said the Equity Center-led suit had the best legal strategies for CCISD.

Arlington district joins lawsuit against Texas school funding system |

ARLINGTON, TX--The school board voted unanimously Thursday to join more than 250 other school districts in a lawsuit challenging the state’s school funding system as unfair to taxpayers and children. Arlington becomes the third Tarrant County school district -- after Lake Worth and Everman -- to sign on with the litigation organized by the Equity Center, an Austin-based education research and advocacy group.

Denison ISD Joins School Finance Lawsuit Against State of Texas |

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX--Texas budget cuts have caused an uproar among educators. Another local school district has voiced their support of a statewide lawsuit. Administrators say the cuts to public education are unfair, and they want to do something about it.
"We've got a very good case against the state," Dr. Henry Scott said, Denison ISD Superintendent. "Hopefully it will force the legislature to do what's right for schools."
