Many people have said to me during my long career in public education that “throwing money at the problem” is not required for school improvement. And, of course, it isn’t the answer if that is all we do. But I can say with certainty that student achievement will not improve if we do not significantly increase our investment in schools. More funding is needed to replace the money that used to be there for instruction.

He claimed that providing such services only encourages breeding and facilitates the problem.

Governor David Dewhurst and Texas House Speaker Joe Straus (San Antonio) announced appointments to the Select Committee on Public School Finance Weights, Allotments and Adjustments. The state's goal of post-secondary readiness and a continued focus on accountability and closing the achievement gap between socioeconomic groups are important to the future of Texas students and the state’s economic health. The committee will review the 20-year-old funding formulas to ensure alignment moving forward.
